Glady's Resignation

'Glady's Resignation' is a watercolour embellishment of her portrait, the former NSW Premier; Gladys Berejiklian, who was indignantly forced to resign during the lockdown period. Inspired by Australian artist Ken Done, this artwork juxtaposes the conveying of adversity with optimism primarily through its duality of colour contrast in the stunning background of Sydney harbour. The vacant-appearing buildings, including the Opera House, convey the lockdown's sense of loneliness, while the 4 alarming statistical figures surrounding Gladys' sorrowful expression create despair. However, the raging aurora of colours that are observable in the harbour reiterate Sydney's diverse identity and evoke the additional juxtaposition of societal companionship while being isolated from each other. Enmeshed within all of these aspects are selected news articles from The Guardian, which report on Gladys’ resignation and ultimately provide the inconspicuous meaning behind this artwork’s title.
